Get a taste of the high life with our pick of Portugal’s best spots to enjoy an outdoor veggie dinner, some tapas or even to have an ice cream with friends 😉

With everyone’s help, Veond gathered in this article the most voted outdoor places for a meal or just for a quick drink with friends. In these venues, you are guaranteed to find the best foods combined with a moment of relaxation with friends after a day at work or even after a “slow” day spent on the beach ⛱️ with your family.

Please note: we aim to provide the most up-to-date information. However, due to these uncertain and unstable times, it is difficult to always know if the businesses are indeed open. For any other safety details, or timings, we advise you to check with venues in advance of your visit. But otherwise, cheers to a sunny Summer.

1. Organi Chiado, Lisbon

In the heart of Lisbon’s downtown, in Chiado, this restaurant wins the title of the best terrace and we could even say that it is well positioned in the race for the “best veggie tapas” bar, too. The terrace, on the steps of Calçada Nova de São Francisco, is inviting for tapas and fresh sangria. In the back of the restaurant, there is also a second outdoor dining area where you can enjoy a more intimate, but no less delicious meal. We suggest the cured pate and “cheese” board with the best homemade bread.

Calçada Nova de São Francisco n ° 2 Chiado, Lisbon
Monday to Saturday - 12h30 to 15h30 and 19h00-22h00

2. Aloha, Sesimbra

In this 100% vegetarian restaurant it is impossible to be indifferent to such complete and varied menu. Located in Sesimbra, right in front of the sea, the challenge will be to choose what to eat. We suggest the mega brunch consisting of toasts, croissants, scrambled tofu, yogurts, granola, pancakes, cakes and juices and coffees.

Av. 25 de Abril 9P, 2970-640 Sesimbra
Sunday to Thursday 09:00 to 19:00 and Friday and Saturday from 09:00 to 22:00

3. Kailua, Fonte da Telha

Although this is not a strictly vegetarian restaurant, it certainly deserves the third place in the “competition” for the best outdoor eating places. There are not many beach restaurants with so many plant-based options on the menu. Kailua bets on an inclusive menu for all: healthy, fresh, light quality options where we don't need to leave the seaside to find something without animal ingredients. We suggest the Beetroot Hummus and the Honaunau Bowl.

Avenida Vasco da Gama, Praia Lareira, Fonte da Telha, 2825-486, Costa da Caparica

4. The Food Temple, Lisbon

Located in one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in Lisbon, this restaurant offers a relaxed and casual area for outdoor dining on the steps of Beco do Jasmim. If you like some fresh drinks and snacks before dinner, do not miss Food Temple’s “Happy Hour” between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm. We recommend a homemade focaccia with a fresh craft beer.

6. PSI Veg, Lisbon

One of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in Lisbon that undoubtedly needs no introduction. More than a restaurant, PSI has one of the most pleasant and surprising gardens. From typical Middle Eastern dishes, to Italian snacks, Asian pastas and Mexican delicacies, PSI offers a trip to distant lands with its intense and always refined flavours. As an appetizer, we recommend the delicious Mango Ceviche and the Jack-fruit Tacos with Pineapple Pico de Gallo as a main dish.

If you are looking for an “experience” in the true sense of the word, this is the ideal place to go: we recommend you to book in advance and the suggestion is even to take your partner or your yogi group friends to taste various available delicacies in the tent outdoors for a truly Zen experience.

R. da Mãe de Água 3, 1250-154 Lisboa
Tuesday to Saturday – 12:00 to 15:00 and 19:00 to 22:30

8. Cor de Tangerina, Guimarães

In the heart of Guimarães historic center, at the top of the sacred hill, and overlooking the Castle of Guimarães and Paços dos Duques de Bragança, Cor de Tangerina is a true oasis of nature and flavours. With an inviting and spacious terrace in the middle of a lush garden, filled with aromatic plants and fruit trees, it is the ideal place for those who have children and want to enjoy the best of a vegetarian meal whilst being outdoors too. 9. Raízes, Quarteira

Raízes is a 100% vegan restaurant, located in Quarteira right next to the beach, where you can enjoy healthy meals while relaxing by the sea. We suggest you start your meal with a board of dried fruit cheeses, grapes, olives and bread served with a nice glass of Cabriz.

10. Café Galeria “House of wonders”, Cascais

At House of Wonders the combination of cultures and Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours creates an inspiring concept that shapes an eclectic space, in a very picturesque and colourful setting. This place, distributed in 3 floors and two terraces, has a café, a gallery, a restaurant, and a rooftop. At one of the rooftops, you can overlook the calm waters of Bay of Cascais whilst enjoying a buffet style lunch where you can pick a little of each daily dish and a natural juice or shake of the day.

Our suggestion is the Coconut and Mango ice cream. And if you are feeling peckish, why not try one of the delicious artisan donuts made with absolutely no animal ingredients too?
